The American Planning Association - North Carolina Chapter (APA-NC) is an association of nearly 1,400 professional and citizen planners working to preserve and create great places throughout North Carolina. APA-NC promotes equitable, healthy, and prosperous communities across North Carolina through professional planning leadership, advocacy, and education.

This year APA-NC and APA-SC are having a joint conference in Charlotte, NC! The conference session proposals on this platform are for both states but the awards proposals are for APA-NC only. APA-SC is not holding awards for this year.

The 2025 North Carolina/South Carolina Planning Conference Committee is excited to announce that Session Proposals are now being accepted. This year our event will be presented as an in-person joint state conference from October 15-17 in Charlotte, North Carolina!


  Session organizers are encouraged to submit sessions that include current issues, trends, challenges, and solutions that are shaping planning today.


  Sessions proposals are reviewed based upon: quality of the session proposal; contribution to the mission of the Chapter; session goals & outcomes; session delivery method and creativity. Additional criteria may apply.

  When submitting proposals, please be reminded:

  • All required information must been completed. This includes full information on ALL speakers that will be presenting during the session. 
  • For session organizers and speakers, block out October 15-17 on your schedule until sessions are selected and time slots are determined. APA-NC / APA-SC cannot take requests for specific dates and times.
  • All sessions will be 60 minutes in length. Complete Lightning Round Sessions may have up to 3 mini-presentations (selected from separate proposals) that are assembled into a combined session (20 minutes per topic, 1 speaker per topic). Workshops should be approximately 60 minutes in length. 
  • Mobile Workshops must be at least 1 hour in length.  
  • No presenter is allowed to present in more than two (2) sessions.
  • Please note that you will receive email notification after you have successfully submitted your form.
